FOR THE RUN OF IT. A running project.
Exploring every bit of road in Wellington City.
An architectural exploration.

For The Run Of It is a running based project, the first of which will consist of running the entirety of Wellington City’s roading network. Taking inspiration from runner Rickey Gates and his Every Single Street project, run by run I’ll be taking an architectural exploration of the city by foot. The project has an open invite and is one I’d love to experience with whoever wants to see a little more of this city and share a few kms with me. If you’d like to support the project, come for a run, donate a tree, or both.

For The Run Of It is a running based project, the first of which will consist of running the entirety of Wellington City’s roading network. Run by run I’ll be seeing the city by foot. Taking inspiration from runner Rickey Gates and his Every Single Street project, and with a message of motivation from Rickey himself “...Good job on getting it started”, this was enough to get the idea on track.

I’ve become increasingly enamored with my little home town of Pōneke Wellington. It’s provided me with a lot in my life. While I’ve lived here most of my adult life, there’s a lot of the city I’ve never seen. Wellingon’s proximity to the ocean, bush, trails and mountains makes it pretty special. You’re never far from any of them. It’s landscapes have prescribed some inventive and interesting architecture leaving the hills adorned with homes of interest. Simply, I would like to see more of it through running.

The project is very much open invite and is one I’d love to share with whoever wants to see a little more of this city and share a few kms with me. Sure, this is a way to get my training in, but I’d also like to grow a community of runners that might like to run with a slightly different purpose. Anyone is free to join and run their pace, path, or distance. Some runs migh be long, some short. Some flat, and of course, some hilly, but we’ll be running for the adventure.

Through this project I hope to raise awareness and fundraise for Trees That Count. I’d like to contribute towards the efforts of making Wellington and Aotearoa even more beautiful. There are roughly 700km of paved roads in the Wellington City region to cover, with the goal planting a tree for every km run.

I’m certainly not an athlete or striving for fast kilometers. My goal is to take an adventure around my town (hopefully wih some other people along the way), raise some money to plant some trees, and make sure running remains a constant in my life.
